First Mates

We believe in developing professional sailors and helping them make the jump into skippering larger yachts. We also know that getting the required skills and experience can be very tough.

If you join Rubicon 3 as a first mate, we will invest a considerable amount of time and effort in training you and therefore we are only looking for people who are prepared to commit to the project for at least two years. During that time you will make really big gains in your seamanship and may progress to skippering expeditions.

You must have:

  • RYA Yachtmaster Cruising Instructor
  • GMDSS General Operator's Certificate
  • ENG 1 Medical Fitness Certificate (current)
  • Experience in delivering RYA Competent crew and Day Skipper courses.
  • Powerboat Level 2 Certificate
  • Excellent references
  • A good level of physical fitness

Do have a look at our Facebook page. We post as often as we can from each expedition. It's the best way to see where we go, who goes on these expeditions and what daily life is like. The photos page in particular will give you a great feel for it all!
